This work explores the concept of ‘Gilded’ — a glittering surface concealing inner decay. Set within a seemingly sublime landscape, subtle yet unsettling details reveal scenes of destruction and deterioration. Inspired by the mass slaughter of North American bison caused by European settlers in the 17th century, which deeply affected Indigenous communities. The piece reflects on human-driven devastation behind the creation of urbanised societies. Beneath ‘beauty’ lies ruin — a reminder of the cost of a forged process.
